Advice 3: Profile width

Profile width, e.g. 68mm, 78mm, 92mm, describes how deep it is built into the walls and decides on the possibility of choosing a wider glazing unit that decides on the Uw value of a wooden window.

Windows with a wider profile will have thicker frames, be heavier and - in dependence of other available configurations, can be warmer.

A wooden profile does not have any chambers inside (unlike PVC profiles), it consist of glued laminated square timber, with an interchanging ring pattern. A profile made in such a manner is resistant to loosening of the material caused by various atmospheric conditions and prevents the so-called ‘swelling’ of wood.
